Destination - Chiloé - Castro


Castro is the third oldest city in Chile and it's well known for its traditional "Palafitos" - stilt houses - buildt on stilts in the sea and for its wooden churches which are World Heritage Sites.

On the seaside you can get to know the Palafito neighbourhoods Gamboa, Lillo y Petro Montt, the handicrafts and farmers market and on the main square (plaza de armas) the Church of San Francisco, one of the 16 World Heritage Churches on Chiloé.

You also shouldn't miss the musem of modern art (museo de arte moderno - MAM), located in the upper part of Castro and open Tuesday to Sunday throughout the year, especially interesting is the exhibition of local artists in January.

Another must-go is the Festival Costumbrista de Castro and the Biodiverstiy market, generally taking place in the last week of February with many people, more than 10.000, attenting!
