Malalcahuello

Situated in the Northern part of the Conguillío area, the Cautín-Malacahuello countryside (Unesco Biosphere Reserve) offers unspoiled nature and a wide range of outdoor activities:

  • Hiking in the Nalcas-Malalcahuello National Reserve, Conguillío and Tolhuaca National Parks, climbing Llaima, Lonquimay (its Navidad Crater), Tolhuaca and Sierra Nevada volcanoes, backcountry ski (randoneé or ski andinisme), horse riding, mountain biking or just relaxing in one of the three
  • Lonquimay (2.865 m.a.s.l.) is one of the few volcanoes that even the unskilled mountaineer can climb and ski down. From the summit you can see no fewer than 14 volcanoes within a radius of 250 km.
  • Right from the doorstep of Suizandina Mountain Lodge, hikes of different lengths can be made to Malalcahuello National Park and its Volcano Lonquimay. Trails are marked, so that you can easily hike without a guide. On your excursions, you can glimpse a wide variety of birds - including the condor which is often seen on hikes in Sierra Nevada Volcano – and the giant Coigue and Araucaria trees. The latter, also called the Monkey Puzzle Tree, which it is Chile’s national tree and lives for more than 1,000 years.
  • Ski slopes are just 20 km away from Suizandina. Downhill skiers delight in the quality of real powder snow. Untouched slopes with virgin snow are easily accessible, we assure that your ski tour or snowshoe excursion will be an unforgettable experience!
