The community of Curarrehue is located 40 km from Pucon and is the last town before the Argentine border. The town was founded in 1901 by chilean settlers on land taken by chilean government from the Mapuche natives. The population now is 5700 - 85% Mapuche dedicated to agriculture, livestock, and tourism. The explotation in a non-sustainable manner of the nature forest unfortunately continues.
